We are now looking for a Senior Systems Safety Engineer to support the railway systems safety activities on major rail/tram projects within the UK and internationally. This position can be is based out of any of our UK offices, with the flexibility of hybrid working based on business need.
Typically, the role will require the following contributions:
Responsibilities:
Support the System Safety Manager related to the Safety assurance activities on projects.
Assist in the development of project specific system safety strategies to comply with the projects’ processes as well as client’s and legislative requirements.
- Support (under mentorship) in developing system safety deliverables including systems definitions, safety plans, Hazard Identification, system status records and system safety cases.
- Act as Technical Secretary for Hazard Identification (HazIDs), Operability study (HazOPs) and other workshops as required.
- Produce minutes of meeting and reports following these workshops.
- Manage System Safety Hazard Records to capture details of the identified hazards.
- Coordinate with various disciplines and stakeholders within the wider organisation/project to source and review evidence for closure or transfer of hazards.
- Provide key project indicator for safety activities when required.
- Work under the guidance of the System Safety Manager to define the CSM-RA Risk Acceptance Principles to control the risks arising from each hazard and identify potential Safety Measures to make the risk associated with the hazard acceptable.
- Support the System Safety Manager in providing compliance evidence and working collaboratively with the Client and Regulatory bodies to achieve the required Authorisations/Approvals under Railways and Other Guided Transport Systems (Safety) (ROGS) Regulations, the Railways (Interoperability) Regulations 2011, Tramway Principles and Guidance (TPG) and CENELEC Standards (EN50126/8/9) as applicable.
- Provide support in regular interface with independent assessment bodes like AsBo, NoBo, Debo and Independent Competent Persons (ICP) to ensure compliance with mandatory Rail/Tram Standards and achieve approval reports.
- Assist in Verification and Validation (V&V) of the design & construction requirements and the functionality of the design for reliability and safety purposes.
- Support the RAM Lead in producing RAM related deliverables like RAM Plan, RAM Requirements/Allocation Reports and FRACAS.
- Use of document and requirement management control tools like ProjectWise and DOORS.
In order to be considered candidates must fulfil the following requirements:
- Degree (or equivalent) in engineering or an appropriate discipline
- Extensive rail experience gained in a similar position.
- Experience of supporting and delivering system safety assurance activities in a rail environment, in design and build projects.
- Experience in delivering in compliance with CSM, Interoperability and NTSNs ,maintenance / operability requirements and standards for railway sub-systems
- Excellent communication skills.
- Team Player
- Understanding and application of Rail standards ROGS, CSM RA, TSIs/NTSNs, ENs and TPG.
- Willingness to travel to client offices as required.
