We are looking for an Engineering Technical Director to provide technical leadership in the EGIS ‘Design Centre’ to a multidisciplinary Engineering team for EGIS Transportation - UK.
As Engineering Technical Director you will be responsible for the development of the entire technical team, across the UK also supporting Ireland and Scandinavia. This will include recruitment, professional reviews, training, management of sub-contractor resources, competency assessment, and standards briefings. Ideally you will have a pragmatic and innovative approach to engineering solutions in order to continue to develop and implement these attributes into the culture of the business.
You will be based in our office in London.
Key Responsibilities:
- Accountability for the utilisation rate of the team to meet the billable hour ratio targets for the business
- Accountable for developing and maintaining the competency of the team to meet the requirements of the business Service Line plans and overall business strategy.
- Build and develop technical teams. Work with in liaison with HR & recruitment, ensure the right calibre of staff (including contractors) are recruited, and in accordance with company policy and procedures
- Lead, motivate, communicate with, develop, appraise and performance manage Technical staff to ensure they are fully motivated to achieve best performance to meet the company’s needs
- Client engagement, successfully manage the client relationship by identifying and meeting industry / client-specific competence / training requirements
- In liaison with the EGIS Senior Team, appoint external consultants, and support in negotiation of fees to ensure services are optimised and fees are within budget
- In liaison with EGIS Senior Team, ensure projects deliverables are archived upon completion
- Support the EGIS Senior Team to ensure correct resources are in place and successfully managed - from direct employee’s to contractors - to ensure the correct skill set is in place within EGIS
- Manage teams’ workload across projects and, in liaison with the EGIS Senior Team, prepare yearly budgets for Technical staff
- Successfully manage the client relationship by identifying and meeting industry / client-specific competence / training requirements
- Work with wider Project’s partners to produce technical reports, presentations etc. as required by clients / EGIS Senior Team
- Be and act as EGIS representative when attending meetings client facing
- Work with the wider EGIS Group to complete Technical inputs for bids and tenders
- Support on technical and management aspects of EGIS UK growth in the UK & International Markets creating technical synergies with internal or external expansions
- Carry out and record briefings of technical updates to discipline team, including sub-contractors, promote best practice and pro-actively identify to resource owners additional training requirements and development opportunities
- Implement systems and procedures to maintain a cost effective, high quality, safe and environmentally responsible approach to design, construction, commissioning and other technical activities on relevant projects, compliant with all relevant legislation. Liaise with regulators and others as appropriate
- To lead in the growth of the Track discipline team, recruitment of technical staff and manage the mentoring of junior engineers

Commitment to work in EGIS office, London ideally, 4 days per week
Proven technical leadership in the development and growth of an engineering business
Project and team-running experience in UK consultancy, client, or contractor organisation
Excellent relationship management skills with the ability to engage, negotiate and manage staff, stakeholders and suppliers
Excellent level of business acumen with good working knowledge of budgeting, profit and loss and reporting
Significant experience in business development and tendering
Professional Engineer Registration status with the Engineering Council (UK) and be registered with an appropriate professional institution, i.e. CEng MPWI
Technical qualifications to degree in relevant subject BEng/MEng
Excellent understanding to Eurocode, Network Rail and associated rail standards, and related regulations (CDM, CSM, RIR)
Excellent engineering, analytical and problem-solving abilities
Strong working knowledge of quality assurance
